The Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters (CME) offers assistance to small- and medium-sized manufacturers in Ontario for Projects that reduce Green House Gas (GHG) emissions. The SMART Green Program supports investments in technology upgrades and process improvements that will reduce GHG emissions and increase energy efficiency.
The program provides assistance in the form of non-repayable grants of 50% of the project cost up to $200,000. It is open to manufactures in Ontario with less than 25,000 tonnes of GHG emissions and at least 10 full time equivalent employees.
To establish the baseline for an eligible improvement project, the applicants have to provide in-house GHG measurements or have a Qualified Technical Service Provider (QTSP) conduct a verification audit of current GHG emissions and energy usage. Applicants can receive a maximum of $10,000 for the initial process assessment and $200,000 per facility for implementation of the improvement project.

The QTSP is responsible for providing the applicant with technical data and guidance for projects that will reduce GHG emissions.
